Page one of whatever

This is the first page of a mini comic I’m putting together. I’m not sure what I’m going to call it or how many pages it will be. I’ll let you know when I figure that out.

TCAF 2010

So, TCAF was a lot of fun! I got to meet a bunch of creators that I have admired for a long time as well as some that I was just discovering for the first time at the show. There were so many amazing, amazing, AMAZING books there this year that I mostly just walked around in a daze soaking it all up.

I was surprised (and a little embarrassed) by the amount of people I know who said they read my blog frequently. A couple of the creators I gave my book to even said they had seen my work around which blew my mind. It’s one thing to put things out on a blog, it’s another thing altogether to know that people are watching you do it. So, um, hi! And thanks! Craziness.

Some highlights for me:

- Discovering JP Coovert. This guys mini comics are gorgeous. You should seriously check them out and buy them here. You can also read his story “Adrift” which is crazy similar to my “lost at sea” story I did last month. Craziness.

- Pouring through Vicky Nerino and Britt Wilson’s comics. They are disgusting, crude, childish and hilarious. I seriously can’t wait to see what they come up with next! You should check them out.

- Meeting those comics’ creators that I already loved and adored from afar. I rocked some totally awkward conversations. (I’m sort of shy, sorry!)

- Crashing at my good friend ed’s place. We had some good conversations and some amazing squash curry, thanks, dude! You should also check out his blog because he's super talented!

My TCAF haul

This morning I cracked open a stack of post its and started thumbing out a fifty or so page story that has been rolling around in my head for the last couple of months. I have been nervous about starting such long comic project (Comics take FOREVER to create and I’ve never finished anything past 4 paegs) but I think after cutting my teeth on these smaller stories I’m ready to try something a little more ambitious. Wish me luck!

Next time TCAF rolls around I intend to have a table and some super awesome comics to sell.

Boredom Pays - Issue 2

Boredom Pays issue two is all but finished. I’ve been putting the finishing touches on everything for it for the last couple of days and I’m pretty happy with it. It’s 7.25x5.5 inches, 20 pages with a grey coverstock cover and includes most of the comics I’ve posted here in the last few months. Also, I've reformatted issue one into this smaller size and added a couple of new pages of old comics.

I’ll be at TCAF this weekend with some copies, though, I won’t be tabling. I’ll mostly just be giving them to all of those comic people I adore. I will have copies up of both issue one and two for sale online after TCAF. I'm also down with trades because getting comics in the mail is one of the best things in life.

In other "news"...

I get these weekly music OBSESSIONS where I can’t stop listening to the same thing over and over and over. This week I’ve been listening to Madeline Ava. She sings sweet songs about life with her ukulele and she’s undeniably adorable. I love her music so much that it makes me want to pick up a ukulele and give it a go myself.
