Honesty
Yep, I think this is it. The last one. I'm in the process of compiling all of these Diary comics into the third issue of Boredom Pays. As it stands It's going to be 40 pages (4 comics per page) and likely at letter size. I'm still working on the cover, an introduction and a couple of other random illustrations but I should have it for the Kazoo zine and comic expo in Guelph on April 16th. After that I'll have copies of it for sale on here!
Also, I think I'm going to try to get out a new 8 page mini I wrote a couple of years ago about going to an Against me! show for TCAF in early May. No promises, but at the moment I'm super stoked about it!

It's hard to control things like this. I find that although there isn't a cohesive narrative in my diary strips, natural patterns do emerge. It's definitely obvious when there's a string of depressing comics, but how often do you look back and think "wow, I've drawn a few too many upbeat comics in a row"?
I think it's a natural tendency in diary type comics to be depressing. In the name of open-ness and honesty and all that.
I am going to miss these comics of yours. They were fun and exhilarating and inspirational as well as depressing. You also have good taste in music. Haha!
I was running a comic just like this (http://verdailies.tumblr.com/), but have come to the same decision. I'd say I'm about 95% decided about stopping. Most of those introspections are just too melancholy or comparative. I think that if I continue the comic, it will only be with the odd post when something funny happens, something that actually makes for an enjoyable comic.
Interesting how it only takes a few drawings to realize how introspection can be so difficult (though you've kept your comic going much longer than I have).
I'm glad I found your drawings, though!
Depressing can be funny too, no?
Damn. I respect your wishes to stop but I'm gonna miss your dailies big time. They were some of my absolute favorites. Good luck in your future projects, brother. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
aw man! it was nice having a daily comic brother, but I understand your reasons for stopping. I love your comics and I'm sure I'm going to like whatever comes next as much as I've liked these
Josh - The rhythm you see in your diary comics is exactly what I think makes them interesting. All the comics are just parts of this bigger whole... and together they say more than their respective parts. You can't help it, really!
John - I find the depressing stuff funny for the most part. But then, sometimes, it's just depressing.
Sam - dude, I don't have the endurance to do what you do. I've got a lot of respect for the amount of comics you pump out!
Everyone - thanks so much for your kind words, it means a lot to me that these comics meant something to you. I'll still be making comics and posting them here, I just want to work on longer stories that really push me to get better at this whole comics mess.
Ditto what everyone has said! I will miss your dailies very much. About the depressing thing, It is what it is. truth and honesty sometimes take that path, but it's real and that's what counts. I think your comics have been very raw and real... I love that. Good luck on the next phase! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
