TCAF 2010

So, TCAF was a lot of fun! I got to meet a bunch of creators that I have admired for a long time as well as some that I was just discovering for the first time at the show. There were so many amazing, amazing, AMAZING books there this year that I mostly just walked around in a daze soaking it all up.

I was surprised (and a little embarrassed) by the amount of people I know who said they read my blog frequently. A couple of the creators I gave my book to even said they had seen my work around which blew my mind. It’s one thing to put things out on a blog, it’s another thing altogether to know that people are watching you do it. So, um, hi! And thanks! Craziness.

Some highlights for me:

- Discovering JP Coovert. This guys mini comics are gorgeous. You should seriously check them out and buy them here. You can also read his story “Adrift” which is crazy similar to my “lost at sea” story I did last month. Craziness.

- Pouring through Vicky Nerino and Britt Wilson’s comics. They are disgusting, crude, childish and hilarious. I seriously can’t wait to see what they come up with next! You should check them out.

- Meeting those comics’ creators that I already loved and adored from afar. I rocked some totally awkward conversations. (I’m sort of shy, sorry!)

- Crashing at my good friend ed’s place. We had some good conversations and some amazing squash curry, thanks, dude! You should also check out his blog because he's super talented!

My TCAF haul

This morning I cracked open a stack of post its and started thumbing out a fifty or so page story that has been rolling around in my head for the last couple of months. I have been nervous about starting such long comic project (Comics take FOREVER to create and I’ve never finished anything past 4 paegs) but I think after cutting my teeth on these smaller stories I’m ready to try something a little more ambitious. Wish me luck!

Next time TCAF rolls around I intend to have a table and some super awesome comics to sell.

That looks like a good haul of comics. Never been to a comics convention but an Indie/small press one would be cool.

That sounds soooo cool!!! I'm going to our small Minnesota Comic Con this weekend and I can't wait! I'm not surprised at all that your stuff is getting around. I wish you continued success!

I wanted to go to TCAF really badly because it was only about a 3 hour drive from Rochester but, unfortunately, I don't have a passport. The terrorists have won. Nice recap, though.

Good to hear you had a great time. I got there for the tail end of it, but spent more time in a panel discussion than checking out the floor. I wanted to see your book all printed out nicely and catch up so it sucks that I missed you, but I can still stalk your blog.
